The Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is reportedly monitoring the activities of ministers and Members of Parliament to ensure control over corruption, maintain administrative discipline, and implement electoral pledges. As part of this initiative, at least 70 MPs are said to be under “special observation.” In addition, three ministers and state ministers have been verbally warned.
Sources connected to the matter said, “performance monitoring mechanism has been in place since the assumption of office by the Prime Minister.” Through this system, the activities of ministers, state ministers, and MPs are being regularly evaluated.
Several BNP policy-level sources stated that the Prime Minister has adopted a cautious approach based on past political experiences. Not only ministers and state ministers, but also the activities of top leaders of BNP’s affiliated and associate organizations are under observation.
Close aides of the Prime Minister said that Tarique Rahman, having spent 17 years in the United Kingdom, had the opportunity to closely observe systems of governance and accountability there. He reportedly aims to gradually implement similar systems in the country.
