The fraud perpetration by a scam ring to swindle Tk 30,000 crore from a monorail project in Chattogram city has now been exposed at an international diplomatic level.
Following their Cairo headquarters refutation, the Egyptian Embassy in Bangladesh has now declared all claims made by this ring as fake, illegal, and baseless in a written statement.
The formal disavowal was sent in a reply email to Agamir Somoy yesterday, Monday, at 1:45 PM.
The embassy said after reviewing the information and documents provided by the Agamir Somoy reporter, they conducted a high-level investigation with the parent companies concerned in Egypt.
Both companies confirmed that they have not recognized or formally authorized any consortium or entity under the name 'Arab Contractors-Orascom Peninsula Consortium' to operate in Bangladesh.
Furthermore, the Egyptian Embassy stated in very strict terms that no authorization, approval, or diplomatic clearance has been granted to an individual named Kawsar Alam Chowdhury to represent the Orascom Construction Group for securing any mega projects or contracts from the Government of Bangladesh.
Even after Agamir Somoy published the written denials sent by the parent companies in Cairo, the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) had been defending the ringleader, Kawsar Alam.
In fact, a CCC press release on June 20 claimed that even if Orascom withdrew, The Arab Contractors would implement the Tk 30,000 crore project on its own. However, following the embassy's response, the City Corporation has been left with no answers.
