Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) announced that “Banglar Joyjatra” finally navigated the Strait of Hormuz after being stranded for more than four months on Tuesday.
BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek confirmed matter. The ship successfully crossed the strategic waterway at 3 am local time.
The corporation praised the 31 Bangladeshi sailors on board for their bravery and rapid decision-making, stating that their coordinated efforts will remain a significant example in the maritime history of Bangladesh.
It also expressed its appreciation for the role of media professionals during the ordeal.
The vessel is sailing toward the Port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates to undergo essential maintenance and take on fuel.
Its journey into the Persian Gulf originally began on 2 February, when it arrived with cargo from India. After picking up a shipment of steel coils at a port in Qatar, the ship reached the Jebel Ali Port in the UAE on 27 February.
However, the ship became trapped the following day due to heightened security risks after war in the Middle East following US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Crew members attempted to exit the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz three times during the hostilities but could not secure the required clearances.
