Tomato Prices Hit Tk 100 Per Kg in Dhaka Markets

The price of tomatoes has reached Tk 100 per kilogram in the kitchen markets of the capital, while most other vegetables range between Tk 50 and Tk 60. Broiler chicken prices have also surged, nearly touching Tk 200 mark.
On Friday, visits to Karwan Bazar, Azimpur, and Mohakhali kitchen markets revealed this upward trend in commodity prices.
Currently, retailers are selling eggplants at Tk 60 per kg, spiny gourd (kakrol) at Tk 60 per kg, pointed gourd (potol) at Tk 50 per kg, and okra (dherosh) at Tk 50 per kg.
Moreover, taro stolon (loti) is priced at Tk 60 per kg, green papaya at Tk 40 per kg, and pumpkin at Tk 50 per kg, while potatoes remain at Tk 25 per kg.
In the fish market, Rohu (rui) sells for Tk 300-400 per kg, Catla for Tk 223-500 per kg, Tilapia for Tk 120-160 per kg, Pangas for Tk 200-220 per kg, and Snakehead murrel (shol) for Tk 700 per kg depending on size. Shrimp prices vary by quality and size, ranging from Tk 550-1,200 per kg.
The egg market shows a dozen selling for Tk 100-110; specifically, white eggs cost Tk 100 per dozen, while brown or red eggs reach Tk 120. For meat, broiler chicken is priced at Tk 180-190 per kg and Sonali chicken at Tk 340 per kg. Beef remains stable at Tk 800 per kg.
Rice prices also vary by quality, with Miniket at Tk 68-72 per kg, Nazirshail at Tk 75-85 per kg, and BR-28 or medium-quality rice at Tk 58-62 per kg.
