The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has issued a new advisory for Bangladeshi visa applicants after receiving an overwhelming response following the resumption of tourist visas.
More than 140,000 applications were submitted to Indian visa centers within the first 24 hours after tourist visa services resumed for Bangladeshi citizens following a prolonged suspension.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, the High Commission said it was encouraged by the strong interest from travelers planning to visit India for various purposes.
However, it cautioned that the unusually high number of applications could result in longer processing times and requested applicants’ patience and cooperation.
The mission also said efforts are underway to expand visa services and make the application process easier, smoother, and more convenient. It thanked applicants for their continued patience and support.
India’s visa policy for Bangladeshi citizens changed following the political transition in Bangladesh, leading to the suspension of tourist visas for nearly two years. After the extended pause, tourist visa services resumed on June 28.
Despite the reopening, some applicants have reported overcrowding at visa centers, server disruptions, and allegations that middlemen are demanding extra fees.
The Indian High Commission said it remains committed to strengthening people-to-people ties and further deepening the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and India.
