Dengue claims record high daily deaths, hospital admissions hit record

The dengue situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated. In the past 24 hours, from 8:00 am Monday to 8:00 am Tuesday, nine more people have died after being infected with dengue. This is the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day so far this year. During the same period, another 1,571 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. This is the highest number of dengue patients admitted in a single day so far.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided the information in its regular dengue update on Tuesday. The bulletin covered the 24-hour period from 8:00am Monday to 8:00 am Tuesday.
According to DGHS data, 130 people have died from dengue so far this year. Of them, 43 died in August. In addition, two people died in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June and 36 in July. So far in September, 33 people have died.
In the past 24 hours, 196 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in areas under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 134 were admitted to hospitals in areas under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 408 were admitted in areas outside the two Dhaka city corporations.
Among the divisions, 142 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in Barishal, 177 in Chattogram, 242 in Khulna, 77 in Mymensingh, 116 in Rajshahi, 71 in Rangpur and eight in Sylhet.
The DGHS said a total of 45,475 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country from January 1 this year through Tuesday morning. Of them, 42,127 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Currently, 3,218 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals across the country.
