International Crimes Tribunal will interrogate former minister Dipu Moni, and journalists Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa regarding the massacre during the Hefazat-e-Islam grand rally in 2013 at Motijheel's Shapla Square.
Following an application by the prosecution, the Tribunal has ordered them to be produced on May 14.
Chief Prosecutor Advocate Aminul Islam said if their involvement in the massacre is found during interrogation, they will be named as accused in the Hefazat case. He shared this information during a press conference at his office yesterday, Thursday.
The Chief Prosecutor said, "Following the horrific killings at the Hefazat-e-Islam grand rally, misleading information was systematically spread through an investigative report titled 'Somikoron' on Ekattor Television. The report attempted to create an impression that no casualties occurred at Shapla Chattwar."
"We have obtained some new information during the investigation of this case. Among these is the investigative report titled 'Somikoron' aired by Ekattor Television’s Farzana Rupa. The report features an interview with the then Foreign Minister Dipu Moni. Additionally, we have found the involvement of journalist Mozammel Babu. The report was broadcasted immediately after the incident. While a sensational event had occurred nationwide, Farzana Rupa broadcasted misleading information using statements from several controversial individuals to divert the incident in an entirely different direction," he added.
Earlier, at a press conference on Tuesday, the Chief Prosecutor stated that several pieces of information had emerged in the investigation of the crimes against humanity case filed over the May 5, 2013, massacre at Shapla Chattwar. On that day, 32 people lost their lives in Dhaka alone. Their identities have been confirmed, and autopsies were conducted for some of them. Furthermore, the identities of 58 individuals have been confirmed so far, including 20 killed in Narayanganj the following day (May 6), 5 in Chattogram, and one in Cumilla.
