Three members of the same family were seriously injured after being attacked with sharp weapons during a dispute over unpaid money in Dhaka's Banani area early Saturday.
The incident occurred around 4:30 am near the Wireless Shishu Mela School in Mohakhali.
The injured were identified as Suman Mia (45), his wife Sonia (38), and Sonia's brother Russell (40) . All three are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to family members, Sumon had been involved in a financial dispute with a man identified as Arif. The two sides had agreed to meet near the school to discuss the matter.
Sumon arrived at the scene with his wife and brother-in-law, while Arif allegedly arrived with eight to 10 associates. An argument over the outstanding payment soon escalated into violence.
Relatives alleged that the attackers first assaulted the victims before repeatedly striking them with sharp weapons, leaving all three seriously injured.
Hearing their screams, local residents rushed to the scene, rescued the victims, and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Banani Police Station Sub-Inspector Md. Jane Alam said preliminary findings suggest the attack stemmed from a financial dispute. However, investigators are examining whether there were any additional motives behind the assault.
He said the suspects fled the scene after the attack, and police are conducting raids to arrest those involved.
