Former Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed claimed Tk 7,938,229 from the state treasury for overseas medical treatment during his 18-month tenure in the interim government, according to information obtained from the Cabinet Division.
The amount is the second-highest overseas medical expense claimed by advisers of the interim government.
Former Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain topped the list, receiving Tk 8,191,488 for medical treatment abroad.
Asked about the expenses, Salehuddin Ahmed told Agamir Somoy that he had performed his duties with integrity but later developed health complications that could not be properly diagnosed in Bangladesh.
“I carried out my responsibilities with honesty. At one stage, I developed health complications that could not be identified in the country. I then obtained government approval through the proper procedures and sought treatment in Singapore. I received treatment there on three occasions,” he said.
During the interim government's tenure, Salehuddin presented a Tk 7.90 trillion national budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The budget allocated Tk 41.908 billion to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, an amount equivalent to 0.000189 percent of the total budget, according to the figures cited in the report.
