Corruption to continue unless July Charter is executed

National Citizens Party convener and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Chief Whip, Nahid Islam MP has said that corruption in the country will not stop unless the July Charter is implemented.
His observation came from a roadside rally on Tuesday afternoon at the Taltala premises of Sakhipur Bazar.
At the rally, Nahid Islam also said that although international oil prices have fallen, they have not decreased in Bangladesh. Instead, electricity prices have increased. He also raised allegations of killings of Bangladeshis at the border and pushing people into Bangladesh from India under the guise of Bangladeshi identity. He demanded that these practices must stop.
Nahid claimed that in the parliamentary elections, the people voted in favor of reforms. But those reforms have not yet been implemented. He also commented that reforms are the people's mandate.
The NCP convener alleged that good governance is being hampered due to the politicization of the administration and police. Although a promise was made to create employment for one crore people before the elections, it has not been fulfilled. He also alleged that the current budget has no framework for job creation.
He said, "In July 2024, people gave their lives for change. That movement was not to remove one party and give another party the opportunity to plunder."
At the rally, NCP's Northern Region Chief Coordinator Sarjis Alam pointed out that everyone must be united against those who were previously collaborators of autocracy and who inflicted torture, harassment, and false cases on opposition leaders and activists.
He advised the administration not to give any leniency to criminals. He said that a firm stance must be taken against extortion, looting, and abuse of power. He also called on the administration to restore public trust through their work.
Presided over by Farid Sikder Zia, convener of the National Citizens Party's Sakhipur Upazila branch, and conducted by Member Secretary Maulana Ansar Ali, the rally was addressed by the party's Senior Joint Chief Organizer and Organizing Secretary for the Dhaka division, Saifullah Haider, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, along with other central and district-level leaders.
