Jamaat Ameer Warns of New Revolution If Justice is Not Served

Opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has warned that the country could face a new movement and uprising if those responsible for enforced disappearances, killings, and alleged mass atrocities during the Awami League government's tenure are not brought to justice.
“After the end of more than 15 years of fascist rule, people expected justice. But after coming to power, the government failed to fulfill that promise,” he said. “Not only has justice not been delivered, but more than 600 people have been killed across the country over the past four months.”
He made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a protest rally organized by the 11-Party Alliance in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, demanding justice for all enforced disappearances, killings, and alleged mass killings committed during the Awami League era.
The jamaat ameer said no conspiracy against Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty would be tolerated. “If necessary, we must once again be prepared to sacrifice our lives to protect the rights and dignity of the people of this country,” he said.
Although the government claims to oppose fascism, it is pursuing partisan control in the administration, banking sector, educational institutions, and other areas, he alleged.
Addressing the government, he said: “You were once oppressed—do not become oppressors. Ensure justice for enforced disappearances, killings, and torture. Otherwise, the people will be compelled to return to the streets.”
Referring to the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, he questioned why a charge sheet has yet to be filed.“People want to know why the judicial process is being delayed,” he said.
Leaders of the 11-Party Alliance also called for the swift trial of various cases involving killings, enforced disappearances, and alleged abuses during the Awami League period. They further warned of tougher street programs if the pace of the judicial process does not improve.
