Education Minister Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said that teachers of institutions where no examinees appear or where not a single student passes will be brought under disciplinary action. He made this remark today (Tuesday) during an exchange meeting with the chief examiners of HSC examination centers under the Chattogram Education Board.
The Education Minister said, "Teachers of those educational institutions where no student takes the exam, or where students take the exam but not a single one can pass, will be transferred to other schools. We have introduced a transfer policy for private teachers, and we want to apply that here."
The HSC and equivalent examinations are set to begin on July 2. Ahead of this, the Education Minister is visiting education boards to provide guidance to center chiefs for smooth conduct of the exams. As part of that, he spoke with the center chiefs in Chattogram today.
The Minister pointed out that the government provides at least 4 lakh taka per month as MPO (Monthly Payment Order) for a school. That means the government pays 48 lakh taka per year in salaries for a single school or college, in addition to bonuses. "Yet no student from there will even sit for the exam—this cannot continue. I want to stop this waste," he said.
The Minister raised questions about teacher accountability and hinted at even stricter measures. He added that teachers who do not enroll their own children in their own schools will also be transferred to other schools. In this context, he remarked, "If you don't send your own child to your own institution, then what will you teach other people's children? There will be no sincerity there."
The exchange meeting, chaired by Chattogram Education Board Chairman Professor Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, was also addressed by Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Helal Uddin. Additionally, heads of various educational institutions under the board and chief examiners of exam centers attended the meeting.
