Budgetary Allocations Revive Economy

Lawmaker Zainul Abedin Farroque of the ruling party has called on the Finance Minister to increase the allowance for freedom fighters.
Arguing, as the freedom fighters made the supreme sacrifice for the country's independence, they deserve greater recognition, and an increase in their allowance will further enhance their honour. If implemented, this initiative would be remembered as a landmark step by the government in the country's history.
He made this demand today (Saturday) while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in Parliament.
At the outset of his speech, Zainul Abedin Farroque thanked the Finance Minister and Parliamentary Leader Tarique Rahman for presenting what he called a "beautiful budget." He said that the proposed budget includes important initiatives in health, industry, employment, and women's development sectors, which will help revive the country's economy.
Paying tribute to the martyrs and the wounded of the July Revolution, he remarked that while the recent sacrifices of the country must be remembered, the history of the great Liberation War must never be forgotten.
Praising the initiatives taken in the health sector in the budget, he said that the decision to upgrade the country's 50-bedded hospitals to 100-bedded ones will play a significant role in expanding healthcare services for the general public. He also thanked the Finance Minister for allocating Tk 20,000 crore to restart industrial factories that had long remained closed due to power and gas shortages.
He also said the measures taken in the budget for women's empowerment and for addressing youth unemployment. Additionally, he commented that all political parties in Parliament need to work collectively to ensure the independence of the judiciary.
At the end of his speech, he recalled the contributions of the late President Ziaur Rahman in establishing multiparty democracy. Calling for national unity by learning from past political divisions and conflicts, he urged everyone to come together and build the nation. The ruling-party lawmaker concluded by calling on all to move forward with the resolve that "Bangladesh comes first."
