BSF retreats after BGB blocks attempt to install pillars at Patgram border

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF), with the assistance of Indian citizens, attempted to install cement pillars along the border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. However, they retreated after being obstructed by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Karimul Islam, Assistant Director of the 61 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident in a press release this Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred earlier on Monday afternoon in the middle of Main Pillars 845/1-S and 845/2-S at the Paishattibari border in Srirampur Union of the upazila. The area falls under the Teesta Battalion, 61 BGB.
BGB Assistant Director Karimul Islam said that bamboo poles previously installed in the Panishala area of Harikamat village under Mekhliganj police station of Cooch Behar district, about 100 meters inside Indian territory from the zero line, were removed. Members of the Panishala-1 camp of the Indian 98 Battalion BSF and several Indian citizens took part in this. Later, they began installing cement pillars about 3 to 4 feet high at that spot.
Upon learning of the matter, a BGB patrol team quickly reached the spot and prevented the pillar installation. He also said that the BSF members then stopped their work and withdrew.
Karimul Islam stated that patrolling has been intensified in the border area following the incident. Additionally, personnel remain on maximum alert.
