All ministries and government programmes will be developed as "disability-inclusive," said State minister for health and family welfare, Dr. M. A. Muhit. He said the government is committed to building a truly "inclusive" Bangladesh. "This is one of the key components of our electoral manifesto and political agenda," he added.
He made these remarks today (Saturday) while addressing a stakeholder dialogue as the chief guest at the BRAC Centre Inn at Mahakhali, Dhaka. The dialogue, titled "Towards an Inclusive Bangladesh: Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Way Forward," was jointly organised by BRAC and B-SCAN.
Detailing the steps taken in the four months since the government was formed, the Health Minister informed that two high-level, strong committees have already been constituted to ensure medical care, rights protection, and services for persons with disabilities. He said the government has proactively reached out to the disabled community within these four months and has begun working to protect their rights.
Calling upon all individuals and organisations working on disability rights to work together, the junior minister said: "It is extremely important to have a free and open single forum or platform for effective communication with the government, where all partners will have equal opportunities. Discuss among yourselves and create such a platform so that the government can sit with you directly and make strategic decisions."
The Minister assured that the specific proposals and demands put forward by persons with disabilities and their organisations would be reviewed, and in consultation with them, the government would work together at the policy level in the days ahead.
