13 Senior Police Officials Sent into Forced Retirement

The government has sent 13 senior officials of the Bangladesh Police, including 11 Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) and two Additional DIGs, into forced retirement. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard, Wednesday.

According to the notification, the government made the decision under Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018. This section allows the government to send any public servant who has completed 25 years of service into retirement without showing any specific cause.

The DIGs sent into retirement are: Dr. A F M Masum Rabbani of the Dhaka Police Staff College, Commandant Maha. Ashrafezzaman of Rangpur PTC, A Z M Nafiul Islam and Md. Monirul Islam of the Anti-Terrorism Unit, Mohammad Abul Foyez of the Naval Police, Shamima Begum of the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, Mahfuzur Rahman of the Sarda Bangladesh Police Academy, Md. Munibur Rahman of the APBN Headquarters, Md. Abu Kalam Siddique of the Industrial Police, Md. Aminul Islam of Police Telecom, and Salma Begum of the APBN Hill Districts.

The Additional DIGs include Md. Sakhawat Hossain of the Tourist Police and Md. Iqbal Hossain, who was attached to the Rangpur Range Office.

The notification stated that they were retired in the "public interest" in accordance with relevant sections of the public service rules. The officials will receive retirement benefits as per the regulations.
