The license of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka has been revoked following the deaths of six newborns, as the authorities’ explanation was deemed unsatisfactory.
The decision was announced on Thursday afternoon at a press conference by the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Professor Pravath Chandra Biswas.
Earlier, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain said that he was not satisfied with the hospital authorities’ explanation regarding the deaths of the six infants.
The six newborns died between 6 AM and 9 AM on May 27 at Ad-din Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka. An investigation committee was formed following the incident. Additionally, a show-cause notice was issued to the hospital’s owner, Sheikh Mohiuddin, asking why the hospital’s license should not be revoked, giving him 72 hours until 5 PM on June 7 to respond. The notice was issued on behalf of the DGHS Director General.
The investigation committee’s report found clear negligence by the hospital authorities, nurses, and staff, as well as the absence of the attending physician, as the causes of the deaths.
