Education Adviser Ehsanul Hoque Milon has warned that anyone spreading false rumors or propaganda about cheating or question paper leaks during public examinations could face arrest under the law.
Speaking at a meeting with examination center heads in Sylhet on Sunday, Milon said individuals who falsely claim that cheating occurred or that exam questions were leaked, whether on social media or through other media platforms—will be questioned by police and taken into custody. If investigations find the claims to be false, they will be arrested.
The meeting held at the Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System auditorium, was organized by the Sylhet Education Board to ensure fair, cheat-free HSC and equivalent examinations.
The adviser said authorities will use cyber security measures to identify those spreading false claims about question paper leaks. He added that amendments to the Public Examinations Act, 1980 have introduced provisions to address misinformation and that the amendment bill will be placed before Parliament on Sunday.
“You cannot spread propaganda, undermine the education system, and expect the government to remain silent. This is not a joke. This is education,” Milon said, adding that anyone publishing misleading information would be brought under the law.
He also outlined several education sector reforms, including official teacher transfers through the NTRCA, an end to political influence in transfers, and revisions to the 55-year-old MPO policy.
Regarding the upcoming HSC examinations, Milon instructed center officials to remain on high alert, saying question paper leaks would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
To strengthen exam security, he said police officers on duty will wear body cameras, CCTV cameras will be mandatory at every examination center, and control rooms equipped with monitors must preserve video footage.
The adviser also said the government has no plans for indiscriminate nationalization of colleges. Instead, only institutions meeting the required standards will be considered after proper evaluation.
The meeting was chaired by Sylhet Education Board Chairman Prof. Md. Anwar Hossain Chowdhury and attended by local administration officials and heads of madrasa and technical education examination centers across the Sylhet region.
