Agamir Somoy Career Club Launches at IUB

Agamir Somoy Editor Mustafa Mamun speaks at the event titled ‘Campus to Corporate.’

A sea of young faces, dreams of success in their eyes and enthusiasm in their hearts filled the auditorium of the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area at 10 am Despite the rainy weather, the venue was abuzz with students attending a special career-focused event titled Campus to Corporate. With the vibrant participation of students from all academic years, the event turned into a festive gathering.

The program was jointly organized by the Career Club of The Daily Agamir Somoy and IUB’s Office of Career Guidance, Placement and Alumni Relations. The event also marked the official launch of the Agamir Somoy Career Club.

At the beginning of the program, Canadian educator and IUB Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Daniel W. Lund delivered the welcome address. He welcomed the initiative by Agamir Somoy and described it as an opportunity for learning.

In his speech, he said that students inevitably have to seek jobs after completing their studies. Therefore, they should choose their career paths in advance and prepare themselves accordingly. He concluded his brief remarks by wishing the young participants success in their future endeavors.

Attending the event, Agamir Somoy Editor Mustafa Mamun shared the story behind the establishment of the club. His remarks highlighted how a newspaper, within just one and a half months of its publication, could go beyond reporting news and become a companion in young people’s career journeys.

Mustafa Mamun said, “A newspaper has a very close connection with the people. The idea of creating a career club first came to mind to make use of that bond.”

At the event, Editor Mustafa Mamun also mentioned that Agamir Somoy currently operates three clubs for different age groups. These are the Kids Club, which helps develop the talents of children up to the age of 12; the Career Club for young people aged 18 to 35; and the Gold Club for providing an enjoyable time for senior citizens aged 60 and above.

He also announced plans to launch another club soon for people aged between 40 and 60. Toward the end of his speech, Mustafa Mamun said, “We all grow up with a dream. Success is also necessary to achieve that dream. Along with success, there must also be peace and happiness in life. We want to build that balanced and successful generation.” In a conversational manner, he also discussed various career-related issues.

The main attraction of the event was renowned corporate trainer and motivational speaker Golam Sumdany Don. In his trademark informal style, he shared stories about the harsh realities of career building for the younger generation. His straightforward message to the students was: “We have only one life, so whatever we want to do, we must do it now. Through hard work, we have to achieve what we want in life so that we have no regrets in our old age.”

Mentioning that there are currently 6 to 7 million unemployed young people in the country, he said, “To survive in this highly competitive market, we must stay focused on our goals and establish ourselves in a unique way.”

He also said that students should maintain at least a 3.5 CGPA. At the same time, Golam Sumdany Don advised young people to stay away from moral degradation and drugs during this stage of their lives.

The nearly two-hour event concluded with a question-and-answer session. The entire program was hosted with enthusiasm, excitement and trademark humor by Dantyas Rowshan, director of the Agamir Somoy Career Club and a children’s writer. Overall supervision of the event was provided by Monjurul Hoque Khan, director of IUB’s Office of Career Guidance, Placement and Alumni Relations.

To keep students energized and overcome fatigue during the lengthy program, several engaging ‘ice-breaking’ sessions were held from time to time. Students enthusiastically participated in various games and intellectual activities.

Among others present at the event were Nazir Hossain Mohammad Nazir Hossain, Deputy Head of Creative, Research and Events at Agamir Somoy, Ahsanuzzaman Rimon, Director of Sales, Marketing and Operations, and several others.
