DMP raids 6 autorickshaw garages over electricity theft

Law enforcement raided six autorickshaw garages and arrested one garage owner operating with illegal power connections at Rayerbazar Intellectuals Graveyard area in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.  

DMP Traffic Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter. Traffic and Crime Units of the DMP Tejgaon Division, RAB, DPDC, DESCO, and several other agencies jointly conducted this drive. The joint team launched the drive at 9 pm on Sunday and found evidence of stolen electricity usage in four garages.

Police said they are hunting for a man named Rabiul, who supplied illegal electricity connections to these garages. Rabiul collected Tk 20,000 a month by supplying unauthorized connections to these garages.

Moreover, authorities conducted a similar drive at autorickshaw garages in Lalbagh, Dhaka. DPDC and Lalbagh Traffic Division disconnected 8-10 illegal power lines during their drive against unauthorized electricity usage.

Beyond targeting garages, DMP is conducting operations against autorickshaws on major roads across Dhaka. Law enforcement is carrying out the drives to restore order on main roads and to curb electricity theft.
