DB arrests Langra Rubel, 4 others in Pallabi

Detective Branch (DB) arrested five individuals, including drug dealer Langra Rubel, following an attempted murder over the distribution of Tk 15 lakh from drug sales in Pallabi, Dhaka.
DB Additional Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter in a press conference on Wednesday. The detainees were identified as Hamid Khan alias Makhan, Langra Rubel, Tanzid Ahmed alias Bappa, Parvez, and Rabbi.
During the operation, authorities recovered a foreign pistol, two rounds of bullets, two magazines, 1,000 pieces of Yaba, and two vehicles used in the drug trade.
Shafiqul said the shooting occurred around 5:30 pm on 7 August in the section-11 area of Pallabi. A man named Alamgir was shot in the stomach and head, while a woman named Josna was injured after being shot in the leg.
Following the incident, Alamgir’s wife filed an attempted murder case at Pallabi Police Station, leading the DB Mirpur Division to launch an investigation. By analyzing video footage, police identified a car involved in the shooting and then arrested its registered owner, Hamid.
During interrogation, Hamid said although the car was registered in his name, the actual owner was Rubel. Then police arrested Rubel’s associates, Parvez and Rabbi. A white Toyota Voxy was seized from them, and 1,000 pieces of Yaba were found inside the vehicle.
DB conducted a raid in the beribandh area near Eastern Housing under Rupnagar Police Station, where they arrested Rubel and Tanzid. At that time, officers recovered a foreign pistol, two rounds of bullets, and two magazines from their possession.
Initial questioning indicated that the shooting was sparked by a dispute between Rubel’s associates and Alamgir over the sharing of Tk 15 lakh earned from drug sales. Alamgir is also a drug dealer with multiple cases against him in Dhaka, though he is the victim in this incident.
Shafiqul said multiple cases are pending against Rubel. Authorities are investigating whether he invested his drug proceeds in various sectors, and if necessary, information will be sent to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to file a money laundering case. An investigation is also underway regarding a house in Hemayetpur where Rubel lives.
He added that no other visible source of income for Rubel was found, and preliminary findings suggest drug trafficking is his primary revenue source. Bappa and several others were in the vehicle during the shooting. Investigation is underway to arrest the others.
In addition to the attempted murder case, proceedings are underway to file separate cases under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act.
