Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) held eight people from Agargaon Passport Office in Dhaka on charges of fraud and taking money by promising to provide passports in a short time.
RAB-2 Company Commander Lt Commander Sayeed Mahmud confirmed the matter on Monday said the detainees had been deceiving the public for a long time by taking money while promising rapid passport delivery.
Lt Commander Sayeed added, “If the involvement of any official or employee of the passport office is found with this gang, action will be taken against them as well.”
Ismail Hossain, deputy director of the Passport Office, said action has been taken against several individuals over the last few months for their alleged connections to brokers.
He added that the dominance of brokers at the passport office has decreased significantly due to these activities. He emphasized, “There is no opportunity to get a passport in a short time through a broker,” and urged citizens to stay away from brokers.
