The government has decided to scrutinize the cases involving crimes against humanity filed after August 5, 2024. To facilitate this process, District Commissioners (DCs) have been instructed to send such cases from the district level to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed talked about this today, Wednesday, following a session with the Ministry of Home Affairs at the District Commissioner Conference held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
The Home Minister outlined the government's position on various national issues, including the maintenance of law and order, recovery of illegal weapons, withdrawal of harassing cases, and preparations for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
Regarding firearms issued on political grounds, he stated that instructions have been given to take necessary measures for their prompt submission and recovery. He added that, if necessary, cases would be filed and weapons confiscated.
"A number of cases related to the anti-discrimination movement have been filed after August 5, which include cases of genocide and various crimes against humanity by the Awami fascist regime," the Minister noted. "We have requested a list from the DCs regarding how many such cases have been filed in each district. We will verify and examine them."
He further mentioned, "As you all know, thousands of people have been named as accused in many cases. We will scrutinize them to identify the actual offenders, which investigating officers will probe to ensure they can be disposed of within a short time."
The Minister also directed the DCs to remain vigilant so that innocent individuals or journalists are not subjected to harassment in cases filed following the anti-discrimination movement.
At the same time, he spoke about bringing real criminals to justice quickly while providing legal exemptions to those intentionally implicated.
Regarding the "push-in" issue, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed mentioned that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been alerted at the borders. However, he expressed his belief that such incidents are unlikely to occur.
