DU hall scuffle erupts over Ibrahim’s seat cancellation

Activists of Chatradal and Chhatrashibir were involved in a clash at hall provost’s office, Muhammad Shahidullah Hall in University of Dhaka (DU) on Sunday.
Md Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan, a house tutor at Shahidullah Hall confirmed the matter. The tension stemmed from the detention of two people in the room of Ibrahim Khalil, the AGS of the hall union and an Islami Chhatrashibir activist.
Both sides took positions in front of the provost’s office during a meeting regarding the investigation committee and the cancellation of Ibrahim’s seat. At one point, a scuffle broke out amid counter-slogans. Both groups claimed that several members from Shibir and Chatradal were injured.
Toukir Hasan, the GS of the Shahidullah Hall Union, said, “Even though the video of the guests who came to the AGS’s room was recorded five days ago, no action was taken against the accused then. Instead, under pressure from Chatradal, the hall provost canceled the AGS’s seat without any formal notice. Later, Chatradal activists entered the provost’s office and attacked us.”
On the other hand, Mosaddik Al Haque Shanto, the convener of the Shahidullah hall unit of Chatradal, added, “Shibir is resorting to various lies to protect the AGS accused in the homosexuality incident. CCTV footage from the day before the incident has also been deleted so that it cannot be verified whether the AGS was present at the scene or not.”
Anwar Hossain said the hall administration eventually brought the situation under control.
