Israel is stepping up preparations for a renewed military campaign in Yemen, according to Israeli media reports. The Israeli military has reportedly updated its operational plans against the Houthis, while Defense Minister Israel Katz has threatened to directly target the group's leadership.
Israeli television Channel 14 reported that the military is preparing for the possibility of renewed hostilities on the Yemen front and has revised its plans for operations against Houthi forces.
According to the report, the preparations were intensified after Katz issued direct warnings to Houthi leaders.
“Our account with the Houthis is not yet settled,” Katz said, warning that the group would “pay a heavy price” for attacks against Israel and its interests in the region.
Channel 14 reported that updated military plans are now in place and could be implemented if Israel's political leadership authorizes a new operation in Yemen.
The report also said Israeli security agencies are strengthening military readiness to address potential threats originating from the south.
In addition, Katz reportedly threatened to target senior Houthi leaders directly. He indicated that Israel could launch operations to eliminate high-ranking Houthi commanders if the opportunity arises.
The reports come amid continuing tensions in the Red Sea region.
The Houthis have previously claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and key maritime routes. The group has also said its military operations will continue as long as attacks on Gaza, Iran and Lebanon persist.
