Mother, Two Daughters Killed in Lakshmipur; Suspect Also Dies

A young man suspected of hacking a woman and her two daughters to death at Raipur of Lakshmipur district, was also beaten to death by local residents on Thursday morning.
The homicides took place on Godown Road under Ward No. 3 of the Raipur municipality.
The victims were identified as Shahinur Begum (38), her elder daughter Sayma Akter (21), and younger daughter Shifa Akter (9). Another daughter, Ikra Akter (17), was seriously injured in the attack.
The family hailing from Cumilla had been living in a rented house in Raipur town.
Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shaheen Mia said Sayma was a student of the University of Dhaka and Shifa attended a local school. Ikra, who was injured, is a 12th-grader at Raipur Kazi Faruky College.
The suspected attacker was identified as Ontor Majumdar. Dr. Arup Pal, resident medical officer at Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, confirmed his death.
According to Dr. Pal, Ontor had been critically injured in a mob beating and was reffered to Dhaka for advanced treatment. But, he died.
Local residents said Shahinur and her family had been tenants in the house for a long time. Her husband, Md. Kamal, died from electrocution several years ago. Ontor was also a tenant of the same building.
Residents said they rushed to the apartment after hearing screams in the morning and found Shahinur and her daughters lying in pools of blood. As Ontor allegedly attempted to flee the scene, locals caught and thrashed him.
Police came under attack while trying to bring the situation under control. Seven officers were injured after being hit by bricks and stones by angry people.
The OC said Shahinur, her three daughters, and Ontor were taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Shahinur, Sayma, and Shifa dead.
Ikra was later transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities said they are investigating the incident and trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Baharul Alam said the bodies of Shahinur and her daughters bore multiple wounds inflicted by a sharp weapon. He also observed sharp-weapon injuries on the suspect's head.
