Where Is the Ceasefire? Asks Lebanese Speaker

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri
Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has opposed direct talks with Israel, arguing that negotiations carry no meaning amid ongoing attacks.
Berri made the remarks in an interview with the London-based Arabic daily 'Asharq Al-Awsat'. Al Jazeera reported the information on Friday.
He said there is no point in continuing discussions while gunfire and shelling continue. He added that sitting for talks under such conditions does not align with reality.
While Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam are pursuing a policy of direct negotiations, Berri has taken a different position. He is known as a close ally of Hezbollah.
Berri also said that the so-called ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump has not been implemented in practice. Instead, he argued, it has given Israel an opportunity to intensify its aggression.
He questioned, “Where is this ceasefire? Has Israel stopped destroying cities, demolishing homes, and killing women, children, and the elderly? Has it stopped blocking ambulances from reaching the wounded?”
Following talks in Washington between Israeli and Lebanese representatives, U.S. President Donald Trump said the ongoing ceasefire timeline between the two countries would be extended by another three weeks.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social on April 24 (Thursday), Trump said the talks had been “very productive.”
He added that the United States would continue working alongside Lebanon to protect the country from Hezbollah’s influence.
