A resilient ten-man United States squad overcame a second-half dismissal to defeat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 at San Francisco Bay Arena Stadium.
The victory propels the co-hosts into a FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 showdown against Belgium.
Folarin Balogun ignited the scoring just before halftime. After having an earlier effort ruled offside and later hitting the woodwork, Balogun successfully converted a Malik Tillman through ball that took a fortuitous double deflection.
However, the match turned tense in the 64th minute when Balogun received a straight red card following a VAR review for a challenge on Tarik Muharemovic.
Despite being shorthanded, the Stars and Stripes maintained their composure. Just moments after Christian Pulisic had a goal chalked off for offside, Tillman extended the lead in the 82nd minute, firing home a decisive free-kick to seal the result.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men now head to Seattle Stadium for their 6 July clash with the Red Devils.
This win keeps the American dream alive as they seek to reach the World Cup quarterfinals for only the second time in the modern era.
