Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations started across the country on Thursday under nine general education boards, the Bangladesh Technical Education Board, and the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board.
A total of 1,270,583 students are participating in the exams, which began at 10 am. However, persistent morning drizzle in Dhaka inflicted significant suffering on both examinees and their guardians before the tests started.
Visits to various centers revealed students entering the examination halls drenched from the rain. The rain also triggered severe traffic congestion across the city’s roadways, leaving many struggling to arrive on time.
At the Siddheshwari College, hundreds of students faced extreme hardship due to intense traffic jams in the Mouchak-Moghbazar area.
Guardians noted that despite leaving home well in advance, the gridlock caused additional anxiety and difficulty in reaching the centers.
Saidur Rahman, an examinee, traveled from Jatrabari to attend his exam at Siddheshwari College. His uncle, Motiur Rahman, shared their ordeal, saying, “I faced great suffering coming to the exam center with my nephew because of the rain. There is also a massive traffic jam due to the rain. We got off before Malibagh and walked.”
According to the published HSC schedule, the nine general education boards held the Bangla First Paper exam on the first day. Simultaneously, the Madrasa Board conducted the Quran Majid exam for Alim candidates, while the Technical Board administered the Bangla-2 exam for HSC (BMT) students.
