Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal has launched a new chapter in domestic cricket by introducing the ‘Captains’ Card’ initiative. The BCB has introduced a benefit-packed card for former national captains. However, the board president said that most former captains, including Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza, will not attend the event despite receiving invitations.
Tamim himself contacted the former captains regarding the card initiative. He even attempted to call Aminul Islam Bulbul, whom he replaced as president after much controversy, but could not reach him.
Tamim personally shared details of the outreach to senior former captains. “I called Bulbul Bhai to invite him for the Captains’ Card, but I could not speak with him. I called Shakib; we spoke, but he could not attend as he is abroad. I spoke with Mashrafe Bhai as well. He conveyed his greetings. Pilot Bhai and Faruque Bhai could not attend due to being busy,” he said.
Tamim also assured that those unable to attend the event would receive the Captains’ Card at their homes. “I could not reach Durjoy Bhai. I spoke with his wife, who extended her good wishes. Those who are here can collect their cards today. For those who are absent, the cards will be delivered to their homes. Those who are abroad will receive their cards when they return,” he added.
Former captains usually receive separate tickets to watch matches. However, the BCB wants them to attend stadiums with greater honour through this card, rather than as regular spectators. Anyone who has led Bangladesh in at least one match will be eligible for this facility. The privilege will apply not only for this series but for all Bangladesh matches and at any venue organised by the BCB.
A press release from the BCB stated, “BCB President Tamim Iqbal Khan will personally hand over a special edition privilege card to male and female cricketers who have proudly led the Bangladesh national cricket team.”
