One
team is playing in the World Cup after 52 years. Another team has set
foot on the World Cup stage after a 28-year wait. The Haiti-Scotland
clash was therefore about fulfilling dreams after long periods of
waiting. In the second match of Group C, the Scots went into the break
with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from John McGinn.
Haiti
and Scotland faced each other in Boston, USA. From the start of the
match, the Scots put Haiti under pressure. Scotland could have taken the
lead in the 18th minute. McTominay's shot hit the post and came back,
so they didn't go ahead.
The
deadlock was broken by Scotland themselves. In the 28th minute, John
McGinn scored from an assist by Ben Doak. The Scots tasted a World Cup
goal after 28 years.
Scotland went into the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to McGinn's goal.
