PM orders stricter measures to stop polythene-plastic use

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered law enforcement agencies to take stricter action to stop the use of
polythene and plastic (materials) . He issued this directive at a review meeting on controlling environmental pollution, held at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat on Wednesday. Prime Minister's Assistant Press Secretary Shahriar Pamir confirmed the information.

He said the meeting discussed increasing the use of environmentally friendly block bricks, the progress of implementing various government initiatives to control environmental pollution, and future courses of action.

He further said that the Prime Minister has instructed law enforcement agencies to be more stringent in curbing the indiscriminate use of polythene and plastic. Additionally, the Prime Minister directed the concerned ministries, departments, and agencies to properly perform their respective responsibilities to stop environmental pollution.

The meeting was attended by Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam; Local Government Deputy Minister Mir Shahe Alam; Water Resources Deputy Minister Farhad Hossain Azad; Environment, Forest and Climate Change Deputy Minister Shaikh Faridul Islam; Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani; Prime Minister's Principal Secretary A B M Abdus Sattar; Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam; and Prime Minister's Special Assistant Saimum Parvez, along with senior officials from the ministries concerned, departments, and agencies.
