Separate lightning strike incidents in five districts have claimed the lives of a school student and four farmers. The accidents occurred in Barguna, Patuakhali, Shariatpur, Pirojpur, and Barishal between Friday morning and afternoon.

Reports from district correspondents,

Farmer Md. Mohiuddin, 40, died after a lightning strike while working in a field in the Mastuktana area of Burirchar Union under Barguna Sadar Upazila. According to local residents, he was digging soil with a hoe when rain began after the sky turned cloudy in the morning. A sudden lightning strike hit him, killing him on the spot.

In Lebukhali Union of Dumki Upazila in Patuakhali, farmer Mojibor Sardar, 50, lost his life while bringing cattle back from a field. As rain began, he went to retrieve cattle that had been tied in a field near his home. A lightning strike struck him while he was returning with the cattle, killing him instantly.

In Mridhapara village of Kodalpur Union under Gosairhat Upazila in Shariatpur, farmer Musa Hawlader, 45, also died after being struck by lightning while bringing cattle home. Fearing rain at noon, he went to the field to retrieve the cattle and suffered severe injuries from a lightning strike. Doctors later declared him dead after he was taken to the Upazila Health Complex.

In the Sonakhali area of Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur, Shoarab Jomaddar, 50, died after being struck by lightning while searching for cattle grazing on a char. Local residents said lightning struck him shortly after he reached the field amid sudden rain and thunderstorms, killing him on the spot.

Meanwhile, lightning struck and killed 18-year-old school student Tanvir Khan while he was working at a fish enclosure in Uttar Shihipasha village of Agailjhara Upazila in Barishal. He was a candidate in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. After the lightning strike seriously injured him, locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
