Man killed by BSF firing, body arrives after 40 hours

The body of Asadul Haq, who was shot and killed by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the Pirganj border in Thakurgaon, was returned after nearly 40 hours. The BSF handed over the body to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) following a flag meeting at the border around 8:30 PM on Sunday.

Officers from Bangladesh's Pirganj Police Station and India's Raiganj Police Station were present during the body handover process.

The deceased, 38-year-old Asadul Haq, was the son of Abdul Wajed from Indrail village in Pirganj Upazila.

According to the BGB, the shooting occurred late Saturday night at around 1:30 AM inside Indian territory near Main Pillar 333, an area under the jurisdiction of the Chanderhat Border Outpost (BOP) in Pirganj. Asadul was injured by BSF gunfire and later died after being taken to a local hospital in India.

Two other young men from the same area, Md. Mostakim and Uda Roy, who were accompanying him, were detained by the BSF. Local residents in Pirganj claimed that another individual named Aiyub Ali remains missing.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin, Commanding Officer of the Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB), said that multiple flag meetings were held with the BSF regarding the incident. The BSF acknowledged one casualty and two detentions. Following three rounds of flag meetings, Asadul's body was handed over around 8:30 PM.

Abdul Hakim, Officer-in-Charge of Pirganj Police Station, confirmed that after completing the necessary legal procedures, the body was handed over to the family.
