Three people were killed and at least 15 others sustained injuries in a collision between a bus and a truck in the Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway on Tuesday.
Shahrashti Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter although the police could not immediately confirm the identities of the deceased.
According to witnesses, a Dhaka-bound Al-Arafah Paribahan bus collided with a sand-laden drum truck approaching from the opposite direction. It is suspected that the collision occurred while one of the vehicles attempted to overtake the other, causing both vehicles to be thrown off the road.
Upon receiving the news, locals and police rescued the injured and transported them to the Shahrashti Upazila Health Complex and other clinics.
Following the accident, traffic movement on the Chandpur-Cumilla highway was disrupted for a period of time but eventually returned to normal after the involved vehicles were removed from the scene.
