Miscreants hacked a 10th-grade student to death and injured three others in Senbagh, Noakhali.
Senbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim Sarkar confirmed the matter. The deceased has been identified as Arafat Hossain Fahim, 16.
The attack occurred around 8pm on Wednesday in front of Belal Master’s house, near Hazera Dighi in Nabipur Union. Police have detained a man identified as Md Harun, 35, in connection with the killing.
According to a witness named Delwar Hossain Nobel, a drug trade led by Harun, Jahangir, Abul Khair, and Momin had been operating for a long time. Five or six days ago, local youths from Belal Master’s house, including Fahim, his brother Rifat, and Sakib, caught a drug user named Manna.
During questioning, the individual revealed Harun’s involvement. Then the local youths protested against the drug trade and established a watch in the area, which successfully halted the drug gatherings for several days.
Nobel alleged that while Fahim, Rifat, Sakib, and several others were in the Baitun Aman Mosque area near their home, a group led by Harun launched a sudden assault. During the attack, Fahim was stabbed in the chest, Rifat’s wrist tendons were severed, and Sakib sustained hacking injuries to his right hand.
Locals rushed them to Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital, where doctors pronounced Fahim dead.
OC Rahim said a blood-stained knife has been recovered from the spot. Legal action is underway.
