Islami Bank reports Tk 1,316 crore loss in 6 months

Islami Bank Bangladesh, listed on the stock market, has incurred a massive loss in the first six months of the current fiscal year (January–June 2026). Compared to the profit recorded during the same period last year, the bank has suffered a loss of Tk 1,316.48 crore in the current year.

This information was revealed in the company's published Price Sensitive Information (PSI).

According to the data, the bank's consolidated loss per share (EPS) stood at Tk 8.18 for the first six months of the current year, with total losses amounting to Tk 1,316.48 crore. During the same period of the previous year, the bank had posted a profit of Tk 67.40 crore, with earnings per share (EPS) at Tk 0.42.

As a result, within just one year, the bank's half-yearly financial performance deteriorated by Tk 1,383.88 crore, which represents a decline of approximately 2,053 percent.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter (April–June) of the current year, the bank's loss per share stood at Tk 6.39, bringing total losses for the quarter to Tk 1,028.26 crore. In the same quarter of the previous year, the bank had earned a profit of Tk 37.63 crore, with EPS at Tk 0.24. Consequently, the shift from profit to loss in the second quarter resulted in a financial deterioration of Tk 1,065.89 crore, or roughly 2,833 percent.

On the other hand, as of June 30, 2026, the bank's consolidated net asset value per share (NAVPS) stood at Tk 36.03.

Regarding the reasons behind this major downturn, the bank authorities stated that the negative impact on financial results was caused by increased expenses against deposits, decreased income from investments, a rise in non-performing loans, and reduced income from placements with other banks.
