BIM for transforming Bangladesh into a competitive regional logistics hub

The Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) organized what they called a 'prominent academic seminar' titled 'National Logistics Policy 2026 and Supply Chain Facilitation in Bangladesh' on Tuesday, at the BIM Training Complex in Dhaka.

The seminar aimed at bringing together policymakers, academics, industry leaders, supply chain professionals, and researchers to discuss the strategic importance of logistics policy and its role in strengthening Bangladesh's competitiveness in regional and global supply chains, said a press release.

BIM has been consistently working to strengthen professional capacity across both public and private sectors. Recognizing the growing significance of efficient logistics and supply chain management in supporting sustainable economic growth, trade facilitation, industrial competitiveness, and public service delivery, BIM introduced Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Supply Chain Management to develop skilled professionals equipped with contemporary knowledge and practical competencies.

The seminar focused on the recently adopted National Logistics Policy, 2025, which seeks to transform Bangladesh into a competitive regional logistics hub through integrated infrastructure development, institutional reforms, digital transformation, and improved supply chain connectivity. Building on the success of BIM's first academic seminar on logistics policy held on 2024, this year's event aims to institutionalize an annual platform for informed dialogue on logistics policy implementation, emerging challenges, and future opportunities.

The seminar was chaired by Md. Salim Ullah, Director General (Additional Secretary), Bangladesh Institute of Management, while Naquib Khan, a famous supply chain professional and currently an Independent Director, Unilever Consumer Care Ltd., delivered the keynote presentation.

Distinguished experts participating as discussants include Professor MD Mamun Habib, PhD, of Independent University Bangladesh, Rear Admiral A. S. M. Abdul Baten (Retd.), General Secretary of the Bangladesh Ocean Going Ship Owners Association, Engr. Sk. Waresul Habib, Executive Director of Olympic Industries PLC and Mr. Hasibul Islam, Assistant Professor at Bangladesh Maritime University.

The discussion was designed as an integral component of BIM's experiential learning approach, enabling participants to bridge academic knowledge with practical policy discussions. It seeks to enhance understanding of Bangladesh's logistics policy framework, promote evidence-based dialogue among public and private stakeholders, identify future competency requirements for supply chain professionals, encourage institutional collaboration, review policy implementation progress, stimulate applied research, and establish a sustainable annual academic forum on logistics and supply chain management.
Participants would expect to gain valuable insights into the strategic role of logistics in national economic development, industrial competitiveness, trade facilitation, and sustainable growth. The seminar also provided opportunities for networking and collaboration among industry associations, academia, logistics service providers, and the supply chain learners, thereby contributing to stronger public-private partnerships and evidence-based policy advocacy.
Through this initiative, BIM reaffirmed its commitment to fostering informed policy dialogue, strengthening professional education, and supporting the development of an efficient, resilient, and globally competitive logistics ecosystem for Bangladesh. The Institute envisions that such seminars evolve into a flagship annual knowledge platform that contribute meaningfully to national logistics policy implementation, supply chain innovation, and sustainable economic development.
