The Met department's forecast indicates that the heavy rainfall currently occurring across various parts of the country may persist for several more days.
The statement of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department notes that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many areas within the Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Consequently, waterlogging may occur in some places.
The department also warned that landslides could occur in the hilly areas of Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts during this period. However, rainfall is expected to decrease from May 4, accompanied by a rise in temperature.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center reported that ongoing nationwide rainfall has triggered floods in the Netrokona and Moulvibazar districts, a situation that may continue. Additionally, the districts of Habiganj, Sylhet, and Sunamganj remain at risk of flooding.
According to the Bangladesh Water Development Board, water levels in four rivers in the country's northeastern region are flowing above the danger mark. In Netrokona, the Someshwari River is flowing 50 cm above the danger level at the Kalmakanda point, while the Kangsa River is 82 cm above the limit at the Jariajanjail point. The Manu River is flowing 72 cm above the danger mark at the Moulvibazar point, and the Magra River is 2 cm above the limit at the Netrokona point.
