Interpol Red Notices Sought for Hasina and 9 Others

Sheikh Hasina
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is among 10 individuals for whom Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested Interpol Red Notices.
Others on the list include Hasina's son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy; her daughter, Saima Wazed Putul; former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed; former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed; his wife, Rukmila Zaman; businessman S. Alam; and several influential former ministers.
The ACC said the move is aimed at bringing the accused back to Bangladesh to face trial and set a precedent in combating corruption and financial crimes.
The development comes after former police chief Benazir Ahmed, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, was arrested by Dubai Police on June 11. His arrest renewed discussions about the whereabouts of other fugitives wanted through Interpol channels.
ACC Public Relations Officer Tanzir Hasan said the commission submitted requests to the police to seek Interpol Red Notices against the 10 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, her family members and other influential fugitives, following court directives.
According to Tanzir Hasan, the documents will be forwarded from Police Headquarters to the Ministry of Home Affairs before being sent to Interpol headquarters for further action.
