The second, or budget, session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad has concluded. On Wednesday, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal declared the session closed by reading President Mohammed Shahabuddin’s proclamation regarding the adjournment of the session.
This year’s budget session lasted a total of 26 working days. During this period, the general discussion on the budget continued for 48 hours and 51 minutes over 14 working days. A total of 316 members of parliament took part in the discussion.
A total of 10 government bills were passed during the session. Under Rule 71 of the Rules of Procedure, 715 notices were submitted. Of those, 24 were accepted. Discussions were held on 22 notices.
In addition, 125 two-minute notices were discussed under Rule 71(A). Under Rule 131, four resolutions were discussed and disposed of.
A total of 278 questions were submitted to the prime minister. Of those, answers to 35 questions were tabled. A total of 5,031 questions were submitted to ministers of different ministries, of which 3,474 were answered.
A total of 11 committees, including the special committee on constitutional amendments, were formed during the session. At the same time, the Business Advisory Committee was reconstituted.
In his closing remarks, the deputy speaker wished for the continued happiness, peace and prosperity of the country and its people. He then declared the second (budget) session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad adjourned by reading the President’s order.
