Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep regret over an attack on journalists in the Dhanmondi 32 area of the capital.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the party’s Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair called the incident unfortunate, undesirable, and regrettable.
The statement said the attack occurred during a peaceful political program, describing any violence against media personnel as unacceptable. Jamaat reaffirmed its respect for press freedom and journalists’ professional rights, stating that it does not support any form of violence against reporters.
It further claimed that the situation arose due to provocation by overenthusiastic individuals or outsiders after the program ended. The party said it would conduct an internal review to identify the exact cause and those responsible.
Jamaat also stated that if any of its members are found involved, strict organizational action will be taken against them.
The statement expressed sympathy for injured journalist Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir and wished him a speedy recovery. It added that the party is committed to acting more responsibly in the future to prevent similar incidents.
