DU Staff Dies While Picking Jackfruit

A 27-year-old staff member of Dhaka University’s Rokeya Hall has died after sustaining a head injury while collecting jackfruit on campus.
The deceased, identified as Shiaqul Islam, died Tuesday morning around 11:00 am at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane confirmed the incident to Agamir Somoy.
He said the accident occurred while jackfruit was being collected on campus. “As the jackfruit fell to the ground, the individual attempted to move away but struck a wall and suffered a head injury. He was later taken to the hospital, where he died,” he said.
“I went to the hospital and saw him. It was hard to believe that such a young man had passed away,” the vice-chancellor added.
A university official said Shiaqul was a young and hardworking employee. “We still cannot believe that he has passed away so suddenly,” the official said.
