The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has warned government primary school teachers to refrain from posting offensive, abusive, or misleading content on social media. The ministry has also urged teachers to strictly follow the existing social media usage guidelines applicable to government employees.
The warning was issued through an official order released on Tuesday (12 May) by the School-2 Wing of the ministry. The letter, signed by Deputy Secretary Rajib Kumar Sarkar, stated that in recent times some teachers have been making adverse comments, using abusive language, spreading allegations, and posting objectionable content against the government, government offices, and public officials on social media platforms. Such activities, the letter said, are tarnishing the image of the government and creating confusion among public servants.
The notice referred to the “Social Media Usage Guidelines in Government Institutions, 2019” issued by the Cabinet Division, and emphasized that all government employees must adhere to these guidelines. It warned that failure to comply could lead to action under the relevant government service rules.
The ministry further instructed that all government primary school teachers must exercise restraint in using social media and refrain from spreading false or misleading information. It also indicated that those involved may be identified and subjected to legal action if necessary. In addition, the letter directed authorities to urgently identify individuals involved in propaganda or activities damaging to the government’s image, take departmental action against them, and submit reports on the measures taken.
Copies of the letter were sent to the Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education and the Director of the Children’s Welfare Trust. Copies were also shared with the minister, state minister, and secretary concerned.
