Man Detained for Throwing Dog into River with Brick Tied to Its Neck

Police have detained a young man on allegations of tying a brick around a dog's neck and throwing it into a river.
Acting on a video that went viral on social media on Thursday, police from Narsingdi Sadar Police Station detained Mohammad Ali, 25.
ARM Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station, said Ali is the son of Abdur Rob of Kamargaon area in Sadar Upazila. Police detained him from his home this afternoon.
The OC said, “A Facebook account named Animal Community Welfare of Bangladesh published a video today. The video shows a shirtless man tying a rope around a dog's neck, attaching a brick to the other end of the rope, and throwing the animal into the river from the Nagariakandi Bridge.”
He said the incident took place yesterday afternoon in the Nagariakandi area of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila.
The video quickly spread across social media and drew the attention of the district police. After analyzing the footage, police identified the accused and detained him in an operation.
The OC also said authorities are taking legal action against the detained youth.
