Two Singapore Deported Youths Remanded Over Militancy Suspicions

Sahedul Islam and Rishad Tayani
A court on Thursday placed two Singapore-returned youths, who were arrested on suspicion of involvement with militant organizations, on a three-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after a hearing.
The two youths are Sahedul Islam and Rishad Tayani. They were detained by Singapore police on suspicion of involvement with militant organizations while staying in the country. They were deported by air on Wednesday. Airport Police Station took them into custody after being informed by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
Later, SI Ashraful Alam of Airport Police Station produced them before the court and sought a five-day remand under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The remand petition stated that during interrogation, the accused admitted to having links with various banned militant organizations while staying in Singapore. It said there was a possibility that they could carry out militant attacks in Bangladesh and other countries at any time. The petition sought remand to determine whether they were involved with any banned militant organizations in Bangladesh, whether they used any electronic devices to carry out prohibited activities, who financed their militant activities, whether they had any existence in Bangladesh, and which internationally banned organizations they were associated with.
After the hearing, the court granted a three-day remand. However, no lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused.
