Bangladesh Students’ Union Education and Research Secretary of the central committee Meghmallar Basu has resigned from the organization.
The central committee’s Vice President Main Ahmed has also resigned.
Bangladesh Students’ Union confirmed the matter in a press release signed by the General Secretary (GS) Shimul Kumbhakar on Saturday.
The press release said Given the political context of Bangladesh, their involvement with a new political platform could lead to organizational disagreements or a conflict of interest if they held responsibilities in two political organizations simultaneously. With this in mind, they voluntarily submitted their resignations.
The central committee decided to accept the resignations after reviewing their reasons and political stances. Due to the same context, the central committee’s Vice President Nazifa Jannat has also been relieved of her duties.
Meghmallar told the media, “I and Main have joined the NPA. It is not appropriate to be in the policymaking forums of two organizations simultaneously. Therefore, I have resigned from the Chhatra Union. Now I want to work in the NPA.”
He is a central and council member of the Network for Peoples Action (NPA), a new political platform formed after the July mass uprising. He previously contested for the GS position in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election from the Protirodh Porishod panel.
