Meta’s services are facing a sudden global disruption, preventing users from accessing Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and other platforms.
The outage occurred around 7:45 pm Bangladesh time on Friday. Users trying to log into Facebook were met with an error message reading, ‘Sorry, something went wrong.’
As large numbers of users rushed to report the issue, the outage-tracking website DownDetector also went down temporarily due to heavy traffic.
Facebook remained inaccessible at the time of filing this report.
Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook, are rarely affected by such disruptions. However, experts say such issues can occur with any internet-based service.
So far, authorities have not issued any official statement on the cause of the problem or when services will be restored. Users have also reported disruptions on Instagram and Threads, suggesting a wider outage across Meta’s platforms.
Facebook has not posted any statement on its social media accounts regarding the issue or provided any timeline for restoration. With DownDetector also briefly affected, it initially took time to assess the scale of the disruption.
