BNP Leader Killed in Khulna Shooting

BNP leader Rafiqul Islam was shot dead by unidentified assailants in South Lobonchora of Khulna. His age is 35. The incident took place near his home in the Doshgate area of Lobonchora at around 11:00am on Friday.
Rafiqul Islam hailed from Jalma Union in Batiaghata Upazila and was a member of the convening committee of Batiaghata Upazila BNP.
According to Rafiqul’s wife, their eldest son had left home in anger. While searching for him, Rafiqul sat in an open space behind their house after failing to find him. At that time, unidentified individuals allegedly shot him in the lower abdomen. He was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Asabur Rahman Howlader, member secretary of Jalma Union BNP in Batiaghata, said Rafiqul Islam was a member of Batiaghata Upazila BNP, a designation also mentioned on his Facebook profile.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Commissioner of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), Abdur Razzaq, said police were working at the scene and further details would be provided later.
