Following the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) in India, a new symbolic political formation called the ‘Cockroach Awami Party’ has now emerged in Pakistan. The group has drawn attention online after being launched in protest against what it described as a ‘sarcastic’ remark by the Chief Justice of India.
Their presence is growing on social media. Mocking BJP’s claim, CJP founder Abhijit Deep said, “The BJP claims to be the world’s largest party. But it took us only four days to surpass them.”
Within hours of this post, the official handle of the Cockroach Janata Party reportedly disappeared from X. Following the shutdown of the Indian group’s social media account, similar ‘cockroach’ themed political pages began surfacing in Pakistan.
One page that quickly gained attention was named the ‘Cockroach Awami Party’. In its bio, the group admitted that it was inspired by the movement in India and launched its own page accordingly.
The bio stated, “Yes, we copied it. It doesn’t matter, because our core philosophy is the same.”
The Pakistani account stated that it is not an individual or a traditional political party, but a collective voice of Pakistan’s Gen Z. The group’s logo closely resembles that of India’s Cockroach Janata Party, but with green and white branding.
The Cockroach Janata Party in India was originally formed in protest against a remark made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. During a court hearing, he reportedly compared unemployed youths to ‘cockroaches’ and ‘parasites’, alleging that when they fail to find jobs, they enter fields such as journalism, information work, and law-related professions.
After the controversy spread, the Chief Justice said his remarks were being misinterpreted. However, the video of his comment went viral.
CJP founder Abhijit Deep is a student at Boston University. He previously worked with the social media wing of the Aam Aadmi Party.
